Not One of the BestSorry, I didn't find this one as good as the others。 It was probably my least favorite。 I've already read the last one。 I am sorry to leave this world of Roland, and his friends。 It helped get me through this pandemic。 An exciting world, no doubt! More enjoyable than Wolves, this revolves around Susannah's pregnancy。 There are some answers for those like me who found Wolves adding more questions than it answered。 I'll be backing up slightly to read Wind Through the Keyhole while awaiting the Dark Tower finale to arrive in the mail。。 More enjoyable than Wolves, this revolves around Susannah's pregnancy。 There are some answers for those like me who found Wolves adding more questions than it answered。 I'll be backing up slightly to read Wind Through the Keyhole while awaiting the Dark Tower finale to arrive in the mail。。 。。。more

Started reading this series under the pretense “some crazy shit happens in book six” and was horribly underwhelmed with how stupid the so called “crazy shit” was

Boy howdy, what a wild ride! The denouement to the Dark Tower cycle sizzles and pops! The wheel turns ever-faster as the dominoes fall and we face the clearing at the end of the path!

Probably my least favorite in the series。 Still great but felt like it dragged and advanced so little。 The whole bit where Stephen King wrote himself in was weird。 I didn't hate it, but it was just too much。 Probably my least favorite in the series。 Still great but felt like it dragged and advanced so little。 The whole bit where Stephen King wrote himself in was weird。 I didn't hate it, but it was just too much。 。。。more

Thank God I didn't opt for the audiobook on this one like I did with the first four。 I would have likely thrown my phone far away and sworn off King for the rest of my days。I have a lot of respect for King。 I doubt I could contrive to write three thousand pages about one group of people。 But it's getting a little ridiculous at this point。 I miss the days of his shorter, sharper work。 Bring back Carrie's length and excellence, please! The further I go in this series, the more I'm disturbed by the Thank God I didn't opt for the audiobook on this one like I did with the first four。 I would have likely thrown my phone far away and sworn off King for the rest of my days。I have a lot of respect for King。 I doubt I could contrive to write three thousand pages about one group of people。 But it's getting a little ridiculous at this point。 I miss the days of his shorter, sharper work。 Bring back Carrie's length and excellence, please! The further I go in this series, the more I'm disturbed by the unnecessary sexuality/male gaze placed on women。 Instead of writing "around her neck," King writes "between her breasts" (on more than one occasion)。 Women are constantly described as "beautiful" or with some sexual connotation and the constant nudity gets tiresome, especially when it is so blatantly drawn to one gender。 Sex is great, gender is great, but when all you do is draw attention to a women's breasts or her genitals, your fantasy novel starts to read more like a porno。 Not a fan。In conclusion, I am going to read the last book in the series as fast as possible。 I loved Roland - the idea of Roland, I should say - but I am hoping he dies soon。 I have spent nearly a year wading through this series and I want it to be over。 Which is a shame, since I think King had a lot of unfulfilled potential。 。。。more

Ohhhhhh boy。 Real low part of the series here。 If I’d had to wait for each of these later books to be published to read them, I’d be infuriated。

This was my favorite one of the series so far。 I have one left to go。 The first was hard to stay with because he had to set it up in my opinion。 I think I would like to read these again to see what I missed the first time around。 He is by far my favorite author。

This series took a turn I never would have imagined but in the best way possible I loved this book and kings command (or lack of) over the world! I’m excited to start the next book in the series but also sad it’s the last for I never want this story to end!

Susannah has gone through the gate with Detta in her mind and Mia seemingly real, heading to the Dixie Pig to give birth。 Who。s is the baby? Why have Roland and Eddie gone to a different time and will Jake and Pere Callaghan be able to protect Sussanah? Lots of questions but few answers in this book。 Lots of time musing about the baby and what might happen to the Beam。 I just hope that the story comes together in the end and some questions are actually answered。 I might just make it through the Susannah has gone through the gate with Detta in her mind and Mia seemingly real, heading to the Dixie Pig to give birth。 Who。s is the baby? The penultimate (not counting the tacked on afterthought that is The Wind Through the Keyhole) book in the Dark Tower overwhelming mass of text had a couple of advantages vs。 the parts leading up to it。 There's some decent writing in here that occasionally caught my interest and also, it's shorter。The main "story" again flounders, goes off on tangents, feels stitched and patched and hardly moves in any direction, least of all towards any Tower。 I won't even go into the "writer within the story"- The penultimate (not counting the tacked on afterthought that is The Wind Through the Keyhole) book in the Dark Tower overwhelming mass of text had a couple of advantages vs。 the parts leading up to it。 There's some decent writing in here that occasionally caught my interest and also, it's shorter。The main "story" again flounders, goes off on tangents, feels stitched and patched and hardly moves in any direction, least of all towards any Tower。 I won't even go into the "writer within the story"-idea。One more to go。 It's a pity I am not interested in the least in what the tower holds or what happens to any of the characters, but however those things turn out, the absurd completist in me will at least settle down (for now, anyway。。。) 。。。more

This one was ROUGH to get through。 The beginning started out okay, but it just devolved from there。 I always find these books a little tough to understand, but it feels like King totally lost the thread on this one。 The magic system made no sense, things just happened with no real explanation, and all it felt like was one palaver after another。 Not even to mention the whole writing himself into the story thing。 What the heck was he thinking with that? This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked Eddie and Roland’s visit to Stephen King, and I liked the notes from “King’s journal” at the end。 I definitely was not expecting King to die at the end! I read one Dark Tower novel a year。 I try to read a book a week but I put aside two weeks for the Dark Tower series (once I start a book or series I have to finish it)。 Wolves of the Calla took me six weeks to read and I didn’t look forward to the next one。 To my surprise I was able to read Song of Susannah in my allotted two weeks。 It was an easy read。 The problem is I don’t know what I read。 I hope it all comes together next year when I read The Dark Tower (but then I still have The Wind Throu I read one Dark Tower novel a year。 I try to read a book a week but I put aside two weeks for the Dark Tower series (once I start a book or series I have to finish it)。 Wolves of the Calla took me six weeks to read and I didn’t look forward to the next one。 To my surprise I was able to read Song of Susannah in my allotted two weeks。 It was an easy read。 The problem is I don’t know what I read。 I hope it all comes together next year when I read The Dark Tower (but then I still have The Wind Through The Keyhole which follows my least favorite book in the series, Wizard and Glass)。 。。。more
